City of Fort Worth to Host National Softball Tournament

The City of Fort Worth is proud to announce hosting two National Softball Tournaments in 2008 at Gateway Park.  A 10&Under Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Girls Fast Pitch Tournament will be held at Gateway Park on July 30- August 3, 2008.  The City of Fort Worth will also host a 55 and Over Fast Pitch Tournament on September 26-28.  The tournament bid was awarded at the ASA National Convention held in November of 2006.  With the help of the Sports Advisory Council and the Parks and Community Services Department, The City of Fort Worth beat out hundreds of cities for these honors.

Teams are expected to arrive at Gateway Park for both tournaments from states such as Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, and Louisiana.  The estimated economic impact for the City of Fort Worth, as a result of hosting both tournaments, is expected to exceed $5 million.  “We are once again excited about showcasing our excellent facilities and outstanding staff on behalf of the Parks and Community Services Department and the ASA Metro-Fort Worth Chapter,” says Athletic Coordinator/ASA Chapter President Brenda Grubbs.  In addition to the two national tournaments, the City of Fort Worth has been chosen once again by the ASA National Office to host the USA’s Olympic Gold Medal Softball Team exhibition games at Gateway Park on June 5, 2008.

The City of Fort Worth has been hosting quality state, regional, and national tournaments for the past forty years. The honor of hosting this tournament is well deserved as Fort Worth was named the #1 site for the Women’s Olympic Gold Medal Team nationwide tours in 1996, 2000, and 2004.

Gateway Synthetic Turf FieldsGateway Park Synthetic Turf Fields Open

The Athletics Section of the Parks and Community Services Department hosted a dedication ceremony to open up a $4.73 million dollar soccer/rugby complex.  The funding for this project was provided by the Fort Worth Water Department which includes two soccer fields, one rugby field, electronic scoreboards, and bleacher covered seating.

The unique sports surface on these fields will allow unlimited play on a year round basis and the fields will frequently remain opened during inclement weather conditions due to their outstanding drainage system.  The availability of renting all three fields will vary from season to season.

However, these fields will be opened to all residents for both games and practices for the sports of  soccer (full size fields only), rugby, and flag football.  For pricing information on reserving these fields, please go to the reservations page or call 817-871-7690 for additional information.
