American Heart Walk
Each year the City of Fort Worth works in a collaborative effort with the American Heart Association to coordinate the logistics of the annual American Heart Walk event. With a call to "Change Tommorrow. Today" almost 10,000 Tarrant County residents raised almost $1 million on Saturday September 23 to help save lives from heart disease and stroke.
The event took place along a three-mile course at Trinity Trails in Fort Worth on September 23. "Thanks to our walkers, donors, volunteers, and sponsors, we raised almost $1 million that will go towards lifesaving research and education." said Gary Terry, chairperson of the Tarrant County Heart Walk, heart attack survivor and Regional Vice President of External Affairs for AT&T.
"The determination and selflessness of everyone involved is such a strong testament to what the Heart Walk represents. Heart disease and stroke are obstacles we can overcome as we step toward stronger, healthier lives." Next's years Heart Walk is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 29, 2007. FitFuture KIDS Fest
The City of Fort Worth in collaboration with the United Way of Tarrant County held the first annual FitFuture KIDS Fest. More than 2,100 children and adults attended the Octover 7 FitFuture KIDS Fest. The free festival, which showcased simple ways families can fit nutritious eating and physical activity into their daily lives.
Filliing the Texas Room of Will Rogers Exhibit Hall in Fort Worth on Saturday, people of all ages enjoyed
- Yoga, fencing, tae kwon do, rock-wall climbing, Dance Dance Revolution, step dancing, and salsa dancing.
- Gymnastics demonstrations, including a special appearance by Olympic medalist Kim Zmeskal-Burdette.
- How to use technology to make exercise fun and interesting
- Healthy cooking demonstrations
- How to grow a healthy vegetable garden
- Almost 30 booths of interactive fun
- Activity trails where kids enjoyed simple activities adapted for all fitness levels, including hopscotch, hula hoops, and jump rope.
FitFuture is a trademarked, collaborative community effort to help local families and individuals live healthier lives. It is being said led by United Way of Tarrant County, Fort Worth Public Health, Tarrant County Public Health, the University of North Texas Health Science Center and the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth. NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick This year's NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick Regional Event was held at Rolling Hills Soccer Complex. This annual event sponsored by the Athletics Section was a combination of all the winners from the area sectional events. The winners of this years event qualified for the State event that will be held at Texas Stadium. We would like to thank everyone who came to watch and participated, congratulations to the winners and good luck at the State event. |
Pitch, Hit, and Run Pitch, Hit, and Run is the baseball equivalent to the NFL's Punt, Pass, and Kick event. This year's area event was held at Sycamore Youth Sports Complex. The event was sponsored by the Athletics Section and included events that tested participants pitching accuracy, hitting distance, and baserunnnning speed. The event was a huge success and we wish all of the winners good luck at their next event. |

National Tourney  
The 2006 12 & under Southern National Tournament was the first national tournament to be held in Fort Worth since 1992. Although only 9 teams participated , everyone that participated and attended the event acknowledged that this was one of the best run tournaments of the year. Congratulations to the Austin Roadrunners for their second place victory and to the Champion Texas Cyclone, both teams played hard throughout the entire tournament. |
McDonalds Splash Day 
The McDonalds Splash Day promotes outdoor recreation, physical activity, and healthy living. Participants enjoy prizes provided by McDonald's, activities that promote physical fitness, and outdoor fun at Forest Park Pool. |

Tennis Block Party
The Tennis Block Parties will bring exciting and interactive ways to involve and expose players and potential players to the unparralleled health and social benefits of tennis. Tennis Block Parties feature three hours of tennis instruction, interactive games, and attractions, offering people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to learn and enjoy the benefits of the game from - from fun and competition to lifestyle and fitness. Skilled teaching professionals, accomplished touring pros, and special guests will guide attendees through games and skills during this day of fun and learning. |
PACS Wellnes Expo  
The 4th annual PACS Wellness Expo was held in February of 2007. The event featured over 35 vendors who demonstrated and provided information for Parks and Community Services Employees on ways to have healthier lifestyles. Over 160 employees from the Parks and Community Services Department attend this years event. Congratulations to Mark Woolsey and the Northeast Region for winning the annual attendance award. |
